Red Grouse in Flight
I go birdwatching high up in the North Yorkshire moors and I’ve managed to stumble upon some grouse while up there. I’ve been lucky enough to get good sightings, meaning plenty of useful reference sketches and photographs to take back to my studio. Once home, I’ve worked on some big paintings in oil to show off the grouse in its moorland setting.
This is one of my larger works, painted in oil on linen.
I wanted to record the drama of seeing them suddenly take flight across the moor, and I’ve worked to capture the special colour and light of the moorland.
