Red Grouse Rising
Red Grouse Rising, or alternatively, Grouse in Feathered Trousers, records days I’ve spent in the North Yorkshire moors. It’s so liberating to be up on the moors with a sketchbook, binoculars and a camera, on the lookout for birds, beasts, flowers and plants to inspire my work. I have had many encounters with these colourful game birds during several trips to Yorkshire, and painted this large oil painting and a number of other similar studies in oil when back in my studio in Lincoln.
