Mr Bullfinch is one of a pair, the other being Mrs Bullfinch (she is shown with him in the second image). This shy and rarely seen bird is a favourite of mine, and I’m always thrilled when I see one or hear its very particular call. He’s got a brighter pink chest than her, and they both love to feast on the young buds of fruit trees - so they’ve not always been popular with farmers and orchard keepers.
I’ve painted bullfinches many times, it’s a subject I will continue to revisit.
