Moorhen at Dawn is a large, dramatic oil painting depicting the fiesty water bird defending its territory early one morning on the River Witham near Bardney Lock. The moorhen appears to walk on water, or run, as it powers its way across the river to head off a potential trespasser. It’s a noisy encounter, lots of squawking and splashing followed by a series of indignant clucks as the ripples settle.
