It’s always a delight to spot a spotted woodpecker, my heart always races a little when I see one, or hear them drumming.
The original painting was inspired by a particular sighting of greater spotted woody on the Coventry Canal, which is a beautiful place, despite its rather urban title. We’ve seen them so regularly at one particular mooring that we nicknamed it Woodpecker Wharf and marked our chart accordingly.
