The Kingfisher is a dramatic bird, both in looks and action. They fly fast and low, and skilfully, across the water and they are blessed with an amazing electric blue plumage. You often hear them before you see them, their piercing call carries easily across the water.
Although the colours are incredibly hard to mix, I adore painting Kingfishers as much as I love seeing them - which is just one of the reasons for there being two kingfishers in this smudge series.
Kingfishers are so quick and graceful in flight, and rarely seen by those who do not spend time near water.
